WHAT STAYS WHERE

Privacy Policy

Privacy is the foundation of Tessa’s Pantry. This policy explains what stays on your device, the minimum information an account requires, and the few actions that intentionally send information elsewhere.

EFFECTIVE JULY 26, 2026
Our privacy promise: we do not sell, rent or trade personal information; share it with advertisers or data brokers; build advertising profiles from it; or send promotional spam simply because you created an account. Private kitchen images stay on your personal device unless you deliberately choose one receipt for one-time reading.

1. Scope

This policy applies to Tessa’s Pantry websites, accounts, memberships and related kitchen-inventory and meal-planning services.

2. Our privacy-first commitments

  • No selling: we do not sell, rent, license or trade personal information.
  • No advertising data sharing: we do not disclose personal information to advertisers, data brokers or unrelated marketers, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • No quiet repurposing: kitchen activity, dietary preferences and private media are used only to provide features you request, secure the service and meet legal obligations—not to build unrelated commercial profiles.
  • No promotional spam: creating an account does not enroll you in marketing. We send necessary account, security, billing and service messages. Any future promotional newsletter requires a separate choice and an easy unsubscribe.
  • Device-first media: private label and kitchen images remain in storage controlled by your browser or personal device.

A secure account still requires a limited online record—such as your email, one-way password record or social-login identifier, session, membership, and any pantry text you choose to synchronize. We explain those records clearly instead of pretending sign-in and multi-device synchronization can work without them.

4. Device-first images

Private kitchen images use browser-controlled device storage. Clearing site data, deleting the installed app, changing devices or using private browsing may remove them. We cannot restore images we never possessed.

Receipt reading is an optional exception. Nothing is sent merely because you open Scan. When you deliberately photograph or choose a receipt, that selected image is transmitted through a protected endpoint to the identified AI provider for that request. Tessa’s Pantry does not add the receipt image to your account; only the ingredient details you review and approve are saved.

5. How information is used

  • Provide accounts, optional pantry synchronization, meal matching and grocery tools.
  • Personalize suggestions for you using household preferences and available ingredients.
  • Process memberships and requested paid features.
  • Send requested or necessary account, security, billing and service messages.
  • Secure, troubleshoot and improve the service.
  • Comply with law and respond to valid requests.

We do not sell personal information, use it for third-party behavioral advertising, or use private kitchen photos to train a Tessa’s Pantry model.

6. Optional AI processing

Advanced AI help is optional. When you deliberately request it, the text or selected inputs shown for that request may be transmitted through a protected endpoint to the identified provider. Transmission for one requested task is different from adding content to a permanent photo library.

Do not submit another person’s private information without permission. Review AI-extracted receipt items before saving because product names, quantities and dates can be incorrect.

7. Google and ChatGPT sign-in

If you choose Google or ChatGPT sign-in, that provider confirms your identity and shares the name, email or provider identifier shown during sign-in. Tessa’s Pantry does not receive the provider password. ChatGPT sign-in does not independently share conversations, memory, files, tokens or billing information.

A matching authenticated email may be linked to the same Tessa’s Pantry member so records remain together.

8. Limited service-provider processing

We do not share personal information with advertisers, data brokers or unrelated marketers. We disclose limited information only when reasonably needed to providers that operate a feature for us—such as hosting, transactional email delivery, Stripe, security vendors and an AI provider you deliberately use. Full payment-card numbers are handled by Stripe, not stored by Tessa’s Pantry. We may also disclose information when legally required or reasonably necessary to prevent fraud or protect users.

9. Retention and deletion

Account and optional synchronized information is retained while the account is active and as needed to provide the service. Private images already on your device are not remotely erased.

Billing, fraud, tax and security records may be retained longer when legally required or reasonably necessary.

10. Your choices

You may edit or delete pantry records, clear device images, manage billing, sign out, or request access, correction or deletion by emailing us. Reasonable identity verification may be required.

Because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no advertising-data sale to opt out of. We will honor applicable privacy preference signals and provide legally required controls if our practices ever materially change.

11. Food-safety data

Ingredient dates, freshness cues and meal suggestions are planning information, not food-safety guarantees. Tessa’s Pantry does not verify storage conditions, recalls, contamination, allergies or whether a food is safe to eat.

12. Security and international use

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards, including protected account sessions and server-side credentials, but no internet service is perfectly secure. The service is operated from the United States. If you use it elsewhere, information processed online may be transferred to and handled in the United States.

13. Children

Tessa’s Pantry is for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided information, contact us so we can review and delete it as appropriate.

14. Updates and contact

We may update this policy as features and laws change. We will post the revised effective date and provide additional notice when required.
